Bohinj cycle path
The cycle path, which connects the Lower and Upper Bohinj Valley, takes us past numerous natural and cultural sights in Bohinj.
A beautiful cycle path that leads through the Lower and Upper Bohinj Valley and will not disappoint you. There used to be plans to build a railway in Bohinj to connect the two valleys, but the railway was never built. Following the original plans, a beautiful cycle path was built in Bohinj in 2011, which winds along the left bank of the Sava Bohinjka in the Lower Bohinj Valley through picturesque Alpine villages in the Upper Bohinj Valley. You can access the cycle path in Bohinjska Bistrica, Brod, near Savica, in Stara Fužina, Studor and Srednja Vas. The trail is mostly asphalted and suitable for all types of bikes.
Roadbook
From the car park at the Danica campsite, a sign leads us along the cycle path past the football pitch and Danica campsite over a wooden bridge over the Sava Bohinjka. After a few hundred metres, turn left and continue along the asphalt road across beautiful meadows to the village of Brod. In the village, join the main road and follow the cycle path markings to the bridge (on the left) in the village of Savica. There we leave the main road and turn right back onto the cycle path. We cycle along the left bank of the river and enjoy the marvellous views of the Bohinj-Tolmin mountains. Shortly before entering the Upper Bohinj Valley, a short but steep climb awaits, where you have to watch out for oncoming cyclists. When you reach the village of Stara Fužina, turn right before the bridge over the Mostnica River and continue along the left bank of the Mostnica until it flows into the Ribnica. At the edge of the village (before the bridge over the Ribnica), turn right and follow the road until you cross the main road at Studor. We cross the main road and turn right into the village at the first houses. We follow the cycle path markings and turn right at the chapel, then soon left past the Mrcina ranch (on the right). After a short descent, we cross the main road again and cycle across meadows in the direction of the Senožet ski resort (note: at the chapel in the middle of the meadows, we follow the tarmac road). The ski resort is on your right and you follow the tarmac cycle path until you reach the village of Češnjica. There, signposts point you to the right and a steep climb to the top of Senožet follows.
