Depending on the trip, stages may lead through Austria, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands or other parts of Europe. Which cycling holiday is right for me if I prefer a more relaxed ride rather than a sporty one?

Start by looking at the difficulty, route and duration of the trip, rather than just the total number of kilometres. On Velontour, you can currently filter by easy, medium and hard. The Drau Cycle Route from Hochpustertal to Varaždin, for example, is classified as easy, but covers 465 km over 10 nights. The key factor is therefore how the route and elevation profile are spread across the individual days.

Does Velontour also offer guided cycling tours, or do I always cycle on my own?

The range includes various types of holiday, so you should check the details of the specific cycling tour. ‘Istria’s Highlights Plus’, for example, includes guided e-bike tours as well as German- and English-speaking tour guides. You’ll also find classic stage tours and cycle-and-cruise packages. This allows you to choose the type of trip that best suits your desired level of independence whilst travelling.

Is luggage transport included in an organised cycling tour?

Luggage transport is included in many classic multi-stage tours, but it is not automatically part of every type of trip. On the Drau Cycle Route from Hochpustertal to Varaždin and the Dolomites–Venice route, for example, luggage is transported from hotel to hotel. You should therefore always check what’s included in the specific tour, particularly for ‘Cycle & Cruise’ trips, round trips and tours organised by different operators.

Can I do these cycle tours on an e-bike as well?

Yes, the current range includes both e-bike tours that are explicitly advertised as such and tours that can be undertaken with electric assistance. ‘Istria’s Highlights Plus’, for example, is offered as an e-bike and motor yacht tour. Velontour describes the Dolomites–Venice route as suitable for leisure cyclists with or without electric assistance. However, do check the type of bike and hire options separately for each tour.

Are there any short cycling trips, or do I always have to set aside a whole week?

You’ll also find cycling holidays for a shorter break. ‘Leisurely cycling along the Moststraße’ currently lasts 3 nights, whilst the ‘Parenzana mini-break’ lasts 4 nights. There are also numerous tours lasting between 7 and 10 nights. You can use the filter for the number of nights to search specifically for a tour that fits your available holiday period.
