Lacken cycle path

Lacken, birds and pure nature as far as the eye can see on the Lacken cycle path (B20)! Don't forget your binoculars!

Half a metre deep, salty water and more than 80 times over: you simply have to see the Lacken. As the seasons change, these salty waters fluctuate between 70 cm deep and completely dry. If you love nature, don't forget your binoculars: more than 300 bird species can be admired at length. On partly asphalted, partly gravelled paths, the trail leads right through the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park, past wet meadows, hay meadows and the Lange Lacke.

A unique natural world awaits nature lovers along the Lackenradweg: salt pans can only be found inland in Europe in the Seewinkel and in central Hungary. The Pannonian salt aster, the marsh samphire, the salt marsh or the salt cress can be found here. 

Rare bird species

Typical inhabitants of the highly saline Lacken are avocets and Kentish plovers, which have their only breeding population in Austria here. However, the shallow waters and their banks serve as feeding grounds for a large number of birds.

The Lacken cycle path is only partly tarmac. The paths in the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel preservation zone are gravelled. Part of the path between Podersdorf and Illmitz is also gravelled.
