"Relax" on the Lake Neusiedl cycle path

Our guests love it and the ADFC has awarded it 5 stars. The most popular cycle path in the region: the NEUSIEDLER SEE RADWEG (B10). Once you have cycled around it, you have 117.5 km behind you. On romantic paths along the reed belt with a fantastic view of the lake and idyllic paths between vineyards, wet meadows and salt pans, you cycle into another world. This means not only relaxation for mind and soul but also the "reawakening" of all your senses! No matter whether your children are jetting ahead and you are cycling behind them, whether you are going on a fun excursion in a cheerful cycling party or whether you are looking for a windy "challenge" as a mountain biker - the Lake Neusiedl cycle path will fulfil all requirements. You can shorten your tour with a boat trip from Illmitz to Mörbisch am See with your children or with a group of friends. Don't forget to take a break every now and then - and not just for the sake of relaxation! Whether you stop for refreshments in one of the numerous wine taverns or "collect" the diverse cultural offerings on your journey - there is certainly no shortage of enjoyment on this route. The lake is always worth a detour, as each of the many seaside resorts has its own charm! You always have the Pannonian sun with you, which has been proven to shine from the sky for 2,000 hours and 300 days a year. So let's head to Lake Neusiedl and get on your bike, because you can cycle, cycle, cycle... from as early as March

Roadbook

Where is the best place to start?

Our tip for the start of the tour is Neusiedl am See. Here you will find the main railway station where trains arrive from Vienna (only 40 minutes by train) and Bratislava and the start of the Lake Neusiedl Cycle Path is only a few hundred metres away. However, you can also start in any other town along the route, as this is a circular tour! But be sure to pay attention to the wind conditions, as even cycling against a gentle breeze can become exhausting over time. So it's best to decide whether you cycle clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on the current wind direction.

How long should you plan for the tour around Lake Neusiedl?

Trained cyclists can complete the tour in one day. Families, on the other hand, like to shorten or "reward" their tour with a boat trip between Illmitz and Mörbisch am See. However, if you don't want to miss out on the natural spectacle, cultural highlights and enjoyment, plan two to three leisurely daily stages! Depending on what else you would like to see and experience, consider the additional distance and time involved.

What is the condition of the route?

Most of the Lake Neusiedl cycle path is beautifully tarmaced. There are only 2 exceptions, which are gravelled: A short stretch between Weiden am See and Podersdorf am See is in the preservation zone of the Lake Neusiedl - Seewinkel National Park & a short stretch of forest between Fertörákos and Balf. The paths are therefore suitable for both touring bikes and mountain bikes.

What does the Lake Neusiedl cycle path look like on the Hungarian side?

There are only subtle differences to the Austrian part of the cycle path. For example, in terms of signposting, but the information is still clear and complete. The cycle path in Hungary is partly newly asphalted and the section between Balf and Fertörákos runs on a completely new route through the vineyards with fantastic views across the reed belt to Lake Neusiedl. The only disadvantage: some sections are unfortunately very steep (by Burgenland standards) and therefore strenuous, especially in summer.
