Round tour from farm to farm
From Altstätten, continue from farm to farm, along the Rhine and back to Altstätten.
The tour starts in the centre of Altstätten at the Appenzeller Bahnen railway station ("Altstätten Stadt" station). The first part of the route leads overland past Marbach, Balgach and Widnau to the Rhine, over the Wiesenrain bridge. The route then runs along the Old Rhine on Austrian territory until it ends. The route then crosses the Rhine again at Kriessern, through the expansive Riet plain past the Eichberg zoo and back to Altstätten, where the tour ends.
There are various farms along the route that are well worth a visit, whether you want to buy fresh farm produce, stop for refreshments or stay overnight. There are also other great opportunities for a stop along the route, such as the Sonnenbräu brewery or one of the marvellous wineries (note opening times).
