Cycle path to the Kaiserbuche

Obertrum am See is the starting point for this scenic tour to the Kaiserbuche, a striking vantage point with an impressive panorama.

From the town centre, the route initially climbs steeply along a cycle path alongside the main road to the Kaiserbuche junction. From there, it is only a few hundred metres to the place where Emperor Joseph II is said to have stayed in 1779 to look out over the newly acquired Innviertel. To commemorate this event, a copper beech was planted at this spot, which is known as the imperial beech. More than a century later, a chapel was also built to mark the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign.

To this day, this place impresses with its sweeping views over the Flachgau region, the city of Salzburg and as far as the Tennengebirge mountains.

For further panoramic impressions, take the Haunsberg circular trail. This leads past Gasthof Kaiserbuche and the VEGA Haus der Natur observatory. Views of the Salzburg Lake District, the Salzkammergut and the Northern Limestone Alps with striking peaks such as Untersberg, Watzmann and Hoher Staufen open up along the easily accessible trail.
