The "Oberthurgau Farm Garden Route" features five very different farm gardens. Mostly located right next to magnificent timber-framed houses, traditional farm gardens contribute to the charm of the hilly, green landscape around Lake Constance in Switzerland

Farm gardens are usually surrounded by a low hedge or fence and combine the cultivation of vegetables, fruit and herbs with ornamental plants such as summer flowers, perennials and shrubs.

The creation of combined ornamental and kitchen gardens has a centuries-old tradition in Switzerland. The inspiration usually came from monasteries. The gardeners there passed on their knowledge and cuttings of their plants to farmers' wives from neighbouring farms.
