Tour of the Loisach-Kochelsee moor
Easy, flat circular tour through the beautiful moorland landscape between Schlehdorf and Kochel a. See. Discover the unique flora and fauna along the Triftkanal and Eichsee.
From the railway station in Kochel, we head towards Schlehdorf. On leaving Kochel, there is a beautiful view of the Loisach outlet at Kochelsee. The cycle path to Schlehdorf runs parallel to the main road with a view of the Herzogstand. In Schlehdorf, you pass the monastery and follow the path via Unterau to Großweil. Here you reach the Trift Canal, which runs straight through the moor. The canal connects two branches of the Loisach and was used by raftsmen in the past. The Eichsee is a popular bathing lake on hot summer days. Shortly before reaching the end of the Triftkanal, you cross a bridge and follow the path through the moor back to the railway station in Kochel a. See.
Roadbook
We start at the maypole in Kochel a. See (railway station) and turn into Friedzaunweg. Turn left at the crossroads. The path ends at Schlehdorferstraße, which we follow. After the two Loisach bridges, take the cycle and hiking path to the right of the road to Schlehdorf. In Schlehdorf, turn right before the Fischerwirt inn, past the Schlehdorf monastery into Unterauerstraße.
Now continue straight ahead through the village of Unterau and on towards Großweil. Before entering Großweil, turn right into Mühlstraße. After the sawmill, turn right along Mühlstraße until you reach the main road. Here we turn right and cross the Loisach bridge, after which we turn right again. From here we follow the course of the Triftkanal.
At a fork in the road, we turn right after about a third of the route. We are now on the way to the idyllic Eichsee lake and cycle round it (not a must, but a worthwhile section of the route).
Shortly before the end of the Trift Canal, cross a bridge to the right over the canal. Simply follow the signs until you arrive back in Kochel a. See.
