Belokranjska pogača

Recipe for a Slovenian flatbread

Ingredients for the flatbread

  • 500 g wheat flour
  • 300 ml lukewarm water
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 20 g yeast
  • 0.5 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten (for beating)
  • Pinch of caraway seeds, whole
  • Pinch of salt, coarse

Preparation of the flatbread

Mix the flour, water and yeast to make a bread dough. Place the risen dough on a greased surface, roll out into a circle of about 30 cm and flatten (1-2 cm, thinner towards the edge). Cut seven straight notches in the dough, brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with caraway seeds and coarse sea salt. Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes at 200-220 °C.
