    “Steyr Valley view” cycle tour

The Steyr is a real mountain river – but we’re staying in the foothills of the Alps and will observe the valley from a suitable distance.

A bicycle tour becomes a pleasure when you combine it with a stop for a bite to eat.

The Steyr is a real mountain river – but we’re staying in the foothills of the Alps and will observe the valley from a suitable distance.

    Cycle tour

A gentle incline starts in St. Blasien on quiet small roads with wonderful views of the Traunstein in the west and as far as Damberg in the east. One more small section of “mountain road” and we end up slightly above Waldneukirchen. From here, we can look left into the Danube Valley. The Steyr lies hidden behind the first hills on the right.
Roll along gently into the “feel-good municipality” of Waldneukirchen, which has been populated for more than 900 years and today boasts an emerging economy. Waldneukirchen presents itself above the Steyr – the rugged limestone peaks have already given way to gentle elevations.
From the small road to Steinersdorf we can see almost the entire Steyr Valley – from its origin in the Totes Gebirge to the estuary in the iron city of Steyr. We won’t see the river itself today as it likes to bury itself deep in the glacial conglomerate of gorges. Yet there is still a positive atmosphere – we can admire private chapels created by a local craftsman and remember at Steinersdorf fire station that threats always exist; even the water in the Steyr can mean both life or destruction at the same time.
