Back to overview

Wine country cycle path

Are steep climbs and lots of ups and downs no problem for you? Are you looking for a challenge and don't shy away from metres in altitude? Then this long-distance cycle route is just right for you. The R25 cycle route through southern Styria is a highlight and a fixed programme item for every experienced cyclist. But amateur athletes are also finding more and more favour on the Weinland Cycle Path, for example with an e-bike. Individual stages of this route are also ideal for a cycling holiday in Styria.

The wine country cycle path through idyllic southern Styria

This cycle tour takes you through the idyllic vineyards of southern Styria. No other wine route is probably as well-known as this one. The R25 cycle route winds its way through culturally rich villages such as Arnfels, Leutschach and Gamlitz. On hot days, you can even cool off - the wine country cycle path takes travellers to the outdoor pool in Leutschach, among other places. Otherwise, countless wine taverns, cycle hotels and a unique landscape await cyclists.

Unique panoramas. An area with charm.
Styrian specialities.

The R25 cycle route gets off to a sporty start - after the starting point in Saggau, the route continues in the direction of Arnfels. Here the route climbs steeply uphill towards Remschnigg. From here on, the route is constantly up and down - a good level of fitness or an e-bike are definitely an advantage on this cycle tour! The Remschnigg is bypassed on the north side and leads travellers on a fast and long descent to Leutschach.
There is a lot to see in Leutschach. After cooling off in the outdoor pool, you can enjoy the grape harvest festival or the wine culture days with a cool head. The village of Leutschach is a symbol of Styrian wine culture - countless wineries, charming wine taverns and an endearing charm invite you to stop for a bite to eat. But be careful: if you look too deeply into your glass, it's better to wait until the next day before continuing your journey.

From Saggau via Leutschach to Ehrenhausen

The Weinland cycle tour then takes you from Leutschach to Schlossberg. Long descents and winding country roads await you here. Our tip: Pack plenty of fluids and nutritious provisions in your rucksack - don't underestimate the metres in altitude to be conquered. But you will also be rewarded immediately afterwards on this stage of the cycle route in Austria. The mill adventure trail is located in Schlossberg - an exciting programme point for all age groups.

From Schlossberg, the route continues towards Gamlitz. Lovers of southern Styria know that Styrian wine culture is particularly important here. The Museum of Styrian Wine Culture is a must-see during your cycling holiday. Many idyllic little places invite you to take a relaxing break.

If you have had enough of vineyards and hills along the way, you can easily change the route. The Mur Cycle Path is in the immediate vicinity and offers a welcome alternative to the intensive R25 cycle route.

From Gamlitz, the destination is already within reach. There are only two kilometres between you and the finish in Ehrenhausen. Here you should definitely visit the castle and the nice cafés in the village. Once you have conquered the Weinland Cycle Path, you will want to start cycling all over again.
