Salzburg’s Lungau, a sun-drenched mountain basin at over 1,000 metres above sea level, is an Eldorado for all leisure cyclists. Experience many a highlight along the Schwarzenbergrunde and enjoy a culinary delicacy from our region at one of our cosy inns.
Tour description
From the St. Michael tourist association you’ll set off to the Murinsel and downstream, past the golf course and towards St. Margarethen, where you’ll find wonderful open-air eating areas, or visit the Augustine Chapel with its old linden trees and the “Samson” in the clubhouse.
Continue to Unternberg where you can take another refreshing break in the newly designed recreation area. Carry on past Neggerndorf and Mörtelsdorf until you get to Tamsweg.
Now continue towards Ramingstein where you’ll see the impressive Finstergrün Castle rising up into the sky. Keep going along the Mur until you get to the small town of Madling. Keep to the right as you cycle on the right along the main road for approx. 300 m and then turn left towards Thomatal. You’ll pass the “Pilgrim Church of Saint George” with its memorial to the deceased priest Valentin Pfeifenberger, widely known as the “Bishop of Lungau”.
Continue along the state road with its gentle incline to the Bettlmandl Tauern from where you can enjoy unique views of the Mur Valley.
