Artificial loop

The artificial loop of the Upper Bavarian Water Cycle Paths is a cycle network of around 487 kilometres with 16 sections that takes you along well-maintained cycle paths and quiet roads through the varied river and lake landscape south of Munich.

The main route starts in Munich and first runs to the Kugler Alm and on to Gmund am Tegernsee, where you can already enjoy the first lakes and water views. From there, you cycle on to Bad Tölz and via Garmisch-Partenkirchen into the Alpine region, before the route takes you through the Murnauer Moos and past the famous Wieskirche church. You then cycle via Schongau and Landsberg to Fürstenfeldbruck and finally back to Munich.

In addition to the main route, there are several cross-connections, including variants via Gauting, Starnberg and Olching, as well as a detour to the town of Dachau. These connections offer you flexible options to organise the loop according to your fitness level and schedule.

The art loop combines water landscapes with cultural highlights: turquoise-coloured lakes such as Walchensee, historic old towns and numerous churches, monasteries and museums line the route. Everywhere along the route you will find places to stop for refreshments and overnight accommodation, ideal for relaxed multi-day tours through nature and culture.

The artificial loop is suitable for different levels of ability. Many sections are relaxed, while individual stages require a little more stamina. Thanks to possible shortcuts, the route can be flexibly adapted. Numerous cultural highlights and charming places along the route provide variety and invite you to take a relaxing break.
