On three loops through Upper Bavaria: the water cycle paths

The three sub-routes make the regional specialities their own: In the north, the cycle route is characterised by hops and beer, in the south-east the focus is on salt and in the south-west on art and culture. The centre of all tours is the state capital of Munich.

HOPS LOOP
Fragrant hop gardens, rolling hills and tranquil rivers - the hop loop of the Upper Bavaria water cycle routes takes you on perfectly maintained cycle paths to the north of Munich. The Isar and Danube accompany you through the Hallertau, the largest hop-growing region in the world. Beer gardens, breweries and the German Hop Museum show you the Bavarian art of brewing from the small hop plant to the finished product.

SALT LOOP
The white gold used to make towns like Traunstein, Wasserburg and Burghausen rich, today the route along the Salzach is rich in cycle kilometres: 380 to be precise. You can follow the salt all the way to its source in Bad Reichenhall, combining culinary delights and wellness with a dip in the Wöhrsee, Chiemsee or Simssee lakes. The extension via Hallein and Salzburg is new: this route connects Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden directly for the first time. Historic salt works, alpine scenery, thermal baths and lakes provide a special variety.

ART LOOP
Bavarian Hollywood in the Bavaria Film Studios, Sissi's living room on Lake Starnberg or the home of the Blue Rider in Murnau: southwest of Munich, you can cycle 340 kilometres of culture. With the Walchensee, Starnbergersee, Ammersee and Tegernsee lakes, the region's most beautiful natural treasures also lie along the way.
