Cycling holiday in the Quellenviertel

Destination for enjoyable cycling: Upper Austria / Austria

Back to overview

A region for explorers

The Bavarian-Austrian Spring Quarter stretchesbetween the Salzach, Inn and Mattig rivers in Upper Austria - an insider tip for pleasure cyclists. With over 700 kilometres of cycle paths and a new circular tour since May 2025, the region combines impressive natural areas, cultural highlights and culinary experiences.

The Bavarian-Austrian spring district is still considered an insider tip for cyclists. Between the rivers Salzach, Inn and Mattig, there is a network of over 700 kilometres of cycle paths to discover. Due to the topography with flat sections and mostly only gentle climbs, the region is particularly popular with leisure cyclists. In between are unique natural areas such as the floodplains along the Salzach, the impressive Salzach Gorge and the Lower Inn European Nature Reserve, a paradise for birdwatchers.

Cycling in the Quellenviertel

In the Quellenviertel, we not only discover exciting natural and cultural experiences, but also regional cuisine from Upper Austria. There are numerous places to stop for refreshments - from rustic snack stops and cider farmers to typical regional inns and two breweries with their own brewery inn. Adventurers who want to pick up fresh produce along the way will find what they are looking for at direct marketers. A particular speciality is artisan bread, which is available in bakeries, cafés and many restaurants.

Discovery tip: Outstanding views, special museums and extraordinary gems - you should take some time to discover them.

Discovery cycle tour

The heart and soul of the Quellenviertel is the new discovery cycle tour with boundless enjoyment of nature and plenty of cultural and culinary highlights. The 180 km circular tour crosses the borders of Salzburger Land, Bavaria and the Innviertel up to the Mattigtal valley and can be experienced in 3 to 4 days, depending on your pace. You have the choice between the lake variant or the panoramic variant in the south and a route on the Austrian or Bavarian side in the west. Thanks to the flexible routing, the tour can be started at many points - train travellers will also find convenient access points along the route.
