    Iron Curtain Trail

The Iron Curtain divided the continent – from the Barents Sea to the Black Sea – for almost half a century. Today, a piece of contemporary history can be “experienced” by bike on the Iron Curtain Trail. The 290 km long section through Burgenland begins in Kittsee on the border with Slovakia and leads along the Burgenland-Hungarian border through Southern Burgenland to Slovenia. Along the route there are many historically interesting places such as the bridge at Andau or the well-known border crossings at Mörbisch and St. Margarethen, where many citizens from the former GDR came to the West in 1989. The plain in the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel region and the rolling vineyards in
Central and Southern Burgenland make this bike tour extremely diverse from a scenic perspective, and hobby cyclists will also find exactly what they are looking for.

A bicycle tour becomes a pleasure when you combine it with a stop for a bite to eat.
