Valleys and water
Clear air by the river, fresh greenery on the banks, plus the impressive, mystical Mendlingtal valley with mills, drifts and hermitages. Water as an (accompanying) element in the midst of marvellous nature.
A short loop through the picturesque Ahorn and Sulbach valleys awaits at the start of the tour, before you cycle leisurely downstream along the Ybbstal cycle path. Small bathing spots invite you to linger, and between St. Georgen and Hollenstein you even feel like you're in Canada for a short time in the midst of beautiful nature.
Refreshed in the Kripperldorf village of Hollenstein, you dive into the Eisenwurzen Nature Park in the direction of Sandgraben. First gently ascending, then a little steeper at the end, after ten kilometres you reach a beautiful resting place on the Promau, surrounded by Königsberg and Gamsstein. The following descent leads to the starting point of the Mendlingtal adventure world - a 3.5 kilometre long, wild and romantic gorge along a stream. Here you will find one of the last functioning timber drifts in Central Europe.
From Lassing, the route rolls gently downhill to Göstling and further upstream along the Ybbstal cycle path back to Lunz am See.
The route is NOT signposted as such!
Roadbook
Cycle from Lunz am See in the direction of Pfaffenschlag and follow the signs for the "Ahorn- und Sulzbachtal-Runde" MTB trekking route. After just under 11 kilometres, turn right at the Töpperbrücke bridge on the Ybbs onto the Ybbstal cycle path and follow it downstream towards Göstling. Cycle past Göstling, Kogelsbach and St.Georgen am Reith to Hollenstein an der Ybbs - always on the Ybbstal cycle path.
In Hollenstein, turn left over the bridge and through the town centre in the direction of Lassing. Cycle slightly uphill through the village towards Sandgraben/Promau and follow the road. After a 10km ascent (max. 8% over one kilometre) you reach the rest area on the Promau, followed by a fast, winding descent into the Mendlingtal (max. 8%).
A short, very steep climb (14%) with an equally steep descent (400m, 16%) until you reach Lassing and continue on the main road for the next 7km, but downhill (max. 4% gradient).
Before you reach Göstling, turn left towards the town centre and change back to the Ybbstal cycle path in the direction of Lunz am See. Return to the starting point in Lunz.
