This tour is a playful forest adventure that delights mountain bikers with its varied trails. Starting at Lake Kaltern, the route initially climbs towards the Kreither Sattel. Before reaching the pass, however, a forest path branches off into the dense woods below Leuchtenburg Castle. Perched on a prominent hilltop high above the Adige Valley, the castle offers a stunning view. At its base, narrow trails wind further through the forest to the “Rosszähne” – a striking rock formation with a lookout point offering spectacular views down into the valley.
Here’s where the real fun begins: the trails wind playfully through the woods, constantly going up and down. In some places, good riding technique and full concentration are required. After this thrilling section, the forest opens up again and Lake Kaltern invites riders to enjoy a relaxing break. The final leg follows the cycling route back to Kaltern, where an aperitif in the historic village center provides a perfect ending.
Variants: Those who wish can extend the tour in Kaltern with the “Großes Steintal” loop or take a detour to the idyllic Montiggler Lakes.
