Cycling on the monastic island
Paradise for cycling lovers starts in the Zurich wine region. From just after Winterthur and all the way to the extraordinary monastery on Reichenau Island, you’ll find everything to make cyclists’ hearts beat faster from their saddle: grapevines as far as the eye can see and picturesque moor landscapes. You can’t get enough of the many jewels of nature here.
Monastery island & floodplains
A monastery on an island? Yes, you heard correctly. The Abbey of Reichenau is located on a special river island, engulfed by the High Rhine. You’ll be amazed by the significant Swiss sacred building from both the outside and inside. The former Benedictine abbey was built in 1862. Today, it’s home to the Zurich national wine cellar and has a fascinating mix of 150 year old winemaking tradition and modern viticulture. For all wine lovers: you MUST sample some regional wines.
