Where hops are important
Even though the Stammertal Valley is almost entirely surrounded by the Thurgau Region, it emphatically emphasises its autonomy and has its own dialect and special customs. The well-maintained paths alongside endless hops gardens, idyllic wine landscapes and romantic villages with timber houses are perfect for cycling.
Hops & Architecture
In 2019, the former municipalities of Oberstammheim, Unterstammheim and Waltalingen merged to form the municipality of Stammheim. The fertile landscape is ideal for growing hops and wine. Did you know that 50% of Swiss hops are grown here in the Stammertal Valley? That’s a great deal when you bear in mind all the effort that is required to cultivate them. The soil, climate and weather conditions must be right. Particularly green fingers are also required to maintain and protect the plants and the specific bitter substance used to produce beer. But thankfully the hops experts handle this with ease, as there’s nothing better than a cool beer after a bike tour!
